The yarn is Lorna's Laces "Shepherd" - a sport weight, 100% superwash, hand-dyed wool. Gauge is 5.5 sts per inch on US Size 6 (4mm) needles. The pattern is written for 2 sizes - newborn to 6 months, and 6-18 months. Due to the nature of the patterning in the yarn the sizes are limited, but the hats will stretch to fit a slightly larger head. You could actually use any sport weight yarn, but you won't get the swirl pattern effect. It's a great beginner project, but so much fun for everyone.
